Last week the students in Martin's class were studying current events. As part of their writing class, Martin challenged the students to write a class newspaper. We were so impressed with their work that we had to share it with you here.
This newspaper was prepared as part of an afternoon General English class. Our General English course is structured so that students get time to practice all areas language learning. Morning classes concentrate on grammar and vocabulary, whilst afternoon classes focus on key skills, such as speaking and writing, with a new topic each week. For more information about our General English course, please visit www.dominion.school.nz.

Words of Wisdom from Dominion Students
Students have so many choices nowadays. However, so much choice means they have to make a lot of difficult decisions. One of our General English classes were tasked with writing some advice for other students on making some of these decisions and the below is what they came up with. Read and let us know what you think.

ACADEMIC UPDATE
It's the end of term here at Dominion, so our students have been busy sitting exams and (hopefully!) will be moving onto new classes on Monday - well done to all!
Good luck to those students who still have exams to do this week such as our IELTS class. These students have all worked very hard over the last 6 weeks, so we hope you get the results you deserve.
Another course that finished this week was our first Business English/TOEIC Preparation class. These students have been studying part time for 5 weeks on this new course and have had a great experience. Some have even chosen to sit the TOEIC test here at Dominion next week - good luck guys!
Starting next week is one of our English for Academic Purposes courses. Dominion offers 3 levels of English for Academic Purposes
(EAP) courses that focus on skills, strategies and language for academic
studies. The course starting
this month is EAP1, which is ideal for students who are aiming for IELTS 5.0 or
further study. This course gives students direct entry into the Dominion
EAP2 course and into lower level certificate courses at external institutes
such as Crown institute of studies, AMES IT Academy, Whitecliffe College of
Arts & Design, Media Design School and NZMA. If you want to know more information about the courses we offer please visit www.dominion.school.nz or email marketing@dominion.school.nz.

January Newsletter
We are happy our January newsletter is out now:
Happy New Year 2013! 2012 was a tough year in New Zealand and around the world. When times get tough, the Dominion response has always been: ‘Focus on what’s important, quality teaching and services – look after your students, staff and agents.’ We are very focussed on keeping a consistently high level of performance in all areas. New Zealand remains a great place for a visit, to study and to live in. Thank you for your support and best wishes for the coming year.
Signed Martin Wall, Principal.
New for 2013 - This year we have started a new 10 week cycle for our General English classes. Dates are:
7 January - 15 March
18 March - 24 May
27 May - 2 August
5 August - 11 October
14 October - 20 December
It is an advantage to start at the beginning of the new cycle, but our system allows ongoing enrolment and students can start any Monday throughout the year.
New year courses - EAP 1 starts 21st January & IELTS starts 4th February
Best wishes,
Alyson and the Dominion Team - marketing@dominion.school.nz

Timetable change!
On Monday April 2nd, Dominion is changing the class timetable. The main reason for the change is so that students finish 30 minutes earlier. This also means that our after school activities can start earlier. The only actual change is to make the morning and afternoon breaks 15 minutes instead of 30 minutes. The classes and contents remain exactly the same:
Class times and focus:
9.00 – 11.45: Focus on language: grammar, vocabulary (course book)
12.45 – 2.15: Focus on skills: reading, writing, listening, speaking – topic based
2.30 – 3.30: Focus on speaking and conversation
Courses:
Part-time: 9.00 – 11.45 or 12.45 – 3.30: 12.5 hrs
Intensive: 9.00 – 2.15: 20 hrs (+ social programme)
Super-Intensive: 9.00 – 3.30: 25 hrs (+ social programme)
Conversation: 2.30 – 3.30
