Weekend activities

August & September 2012

Did you know we have a weekend activity calendar? There are options for everybody. Some of the trips are Day Trips, some others are Two (or more days) Trips. They are affordable and you'll find they are customised for foreign students learning English. There are plenty of opportunities to make friends, have fun and - what you want to do the most while studying with us - improve your English in the real world.

If you have questions about these trips or you'd like to know prices, accommodation details or coming trips in the next couple of months, please email us and we'll send you the information you are looking for. You can contact us in English or your language. We have a wide variety of counsellors who will contact you in your own language marketing@dominion.school.nz

Timetable change!

On Monday April 2nd, Dominion is changing the class timetable. The main reason for the change is so that students finish 30 minutes earlier. This also means that our after school activities can start earlier. The only actual change is to make the morning and afternoon breaks 15 minutes instead of 30 minutes. The classes and contents remain exactly the same:

Class times and focus:

9.00 – 11.45: Focus on language: grammar, vocabulary (course book)
12.45 – 2.15: Focus on skills: reading, writing, listening, speaking – topic based
2.30 – 3.30: Focus on speaking and conversation

Courses:

Part-time: 9.00 – 11.45 or 12.45 – 3.30: 12.5 hrs
Intensive: 9.00 – 2.15: 20 hrs (+ social programme)
Super-Intensive: 9.00 – 3.30: 25 hrs (+ social programme)
Conversation: 2.30 – 3.30

Contact us at marketing@dominion.school.nz if you have any questions or a PDF format for this post.

March Magazine 2012 + Summary

March Dominion Schools magazine is now available in our school. Our students have already received a free copy. Colour copies are $2.50.

Summer is coming to an end in the City of Sails as we welcome the new month of March and all the excitement it brings with it!

This month we are keeping busy, with new TESOL, FCE, and CAE courses starting soon, and our 6-week IELTS course is still going strong. Well done to those students who have taken on the challenges of these courses.

We were also lucky enough to welcome 34 new students at the end of February and most of them will stay with us until the end of March or longer.

Make sure you head out and enjoy the last few weeks of summer, go to the beach or maybe take a weekend away with Zane and some friends on one of our weekend trips adventures! It’s the perfect way to see a little more of our beautiful country.

We hope you’ve had a great start to 2012 and are looking forward to the rest of it (we sure are!).

Rugby Quiz & Rugby Night

Students from Christchurch have enjoyed a great rugby match with one of our teachers, Peter Ward. It was lovely to have him teaching again here at school. More than 25 students beat the cold weather to watch their first rugby match here in New Zealand.

Can you see Dan Carter on the screen? He is one of our most popular All Blacks player. Fantastic to see him back on the field.

Before the game we had a Rugby Quiz at school!!! The Waikato Team won the chocolates.

We also learnt how to form a scrum. So much fun! Thank to Warner and Peter who run this special Friday activity.

Ten great things about Dominion and Christchurch...

… from Porntip’s Group – April 2009

We have been studying at Dominion for five weeks and gained a lot of invaluable experiences every single day of our visit. The staff and teachers are so helpful and try to encourage us to speak English as much as possible. An English speaking area policy helps us improve speaking and listening skills within a very limited time. Dominion is an excellent place to study English because it gives such a homely environment and that really helps us overcome the feeling of homesickness especially when you are in a different culture.

Activities provided at school are so interesting:
*We had a fabulous night at the Christchurch Gondola while watching sunset and dining at the Pinnacle Restaurant.
*And the little penguins at the Antarctic Center are so cute!

Here are 10 great things about Dominion and Christchurch
- common room – table tennis, pool table, and soccer table
- The best Principal in the world
- Good hospitality and high quality education
- Wonderful caring host families
- Fantastic hangout @ Dux de Lux
- Great Art Gallery and beautiful Botanic Garden
- Variety of international food
- Excellent and fun weekend trips by Hello New Zealand
- Wonderful, kind and helpful friends
- Clean air, no pollution and good traffic

Wine & Cheese '09

Auckland campus' popular fortnightly free Wine & Cheese was relaunched for '09 yesterday afternoon.

Wine & Cheese is part of our afternoon activities program and is held every second Thursday afternoon at 4pm in the student lounge.

Students come together to eat, drink and practise their English whilst relaxing and getting to know other students from different countries.

Students have the choice between red & white wine or soft drinks to wash down their cheese and crackers.

This popular activity has enjoyed a strong student body turnout since it first began last year and is so popular we're sure it'll continue!

Cheers!
